Scott “Scotty” Lewis was born on March 10, 1974 in San Antonio, Texas and grew up in Hot Springs, AR. Currently, Scotty is currently reading Cat’s Eye by Margaret Atwood, The Stories of Eva Luna by Isabel Allende, and While Mortal’s Sleep by Kurt Vonnegut and recommends them all. He graduated Henderson State University with an English major and an Anthropology minor. Scotty says he dream dinner party would be UCA’s current MFA class in about twenty years and has graciously volunteered to cater the event himself. For Scotty, influences are generally the people with which he spends the most time. As a writer his primary influences and all time favorites change ranks often. For the time being, it’s the Yusef Komunyakaa collection Pleasure Dome.
Scotty enjoys all kinds of music “so long as the main idea is not hearing impairment.” His favorite all time album is the Les Paul and Chet Atkins album Masters of Guitar. Favorite band is Yo La Tengo.
Scotty has many hobbies to keep himself busy outside of his literary life including karate, fishing (he holds a Master Angler’s award for striper in Arkansas), hiking, and golf. As a humorous aside, Scotty mentions that he won the Arkansas Boy’s State Championship for baton in the early eighties. For the immediate future, Scotty plans to have a poetry manuscript ready for publication within the next five years. He plans to use his time in the MFA program to fine tune his poetic voice and find his style in other genres.
